Thompson Founder and Creative Director Alejandra Ochoa de Thompson was recognized with the 2023 ATHENA Award at the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce Annual Celebration. An international honor, the award is presented to an individual who attains the highest level of professional excellence and is committed to improving the quality of life for others and the advancement of women.
Ochoa de Thompson founded her kitchen and bath product company in 2002 with her family. Two decades later, Thompson has grown exponentially and is the parent of two distinct brands—Thompson and Sinkology. Thompson offers interior designers and specifiers a diverse world of luxury hand-crafted sinks, vanities, range hoods, tubs, and accessories for residential and hospitality applications. Sinkology sells kitchen and bath fixtures in a variety of retail settings throughout North America.
In addition to running her family business, Ochoa de Thompson has worked tirelessly to support the Piedmont Triad Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). After her youngest daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as a child, she threw herself wholeheartedly into the organization and used her creative energy to assist the annual fundraising gala. Along with Wendy Calloway, the gala experience co-chair, Ochoa de Thompson has been instrumental in creating an experience that has become renown throughout the national JDRF organization.
“When I was first contacted about this award, my reaction was that they got the wrong person,” said Ochoa de Thompson. “My guiding principle in life is to do the best you can today, but tomorrow is not given. I am completely honored and overwhelmed by this honor and would like to share it with all the people who selflessly give their time and energy to this community.”
